Họ Lâm — The Lâm Clan
Originally from Phúc Kiến (China) and later rooted in Thủy Bạn, Quảng Trị, the Lâm clan is the maternal lineage of the family — around 162 members across six generations.
Origins
The name Lâm (林, “forest”) is one of the eight founding names of Phúc Kiến (Fujian, China). The founding ancestor of the clan in China is Lâm Kiến (林坚), from the city of Vệ Huy. Through the turmoil of the late Ming and early Qing periods, a branch emigrated to Việt Nam and settled in Thủy Bạn (Trung Giang, Gio Linh, Quảng Trị).
Compilation of the genealogy
This gia phả was transcribed from chữ Hán into Vietnamese in 1987, then compiled in 1997 by Lâm Nguyên Hiền (8.D4), and updated in 2021 by Lâm Duy Thịnh (15.D5). It records around 162 direct members of the Lâm name, spread over six generations (đời), as well as their spouses — coming notably from the Nguyễn, Trần, Lê, Phạm, Đặng, Đoàn, Trương, Trịnh, Đỗ and Đinh families.
