The gia phả — the official genealogy

The register of the lineage, and what derives from it. There is not one gia phả but several states of the same book: the Vietnamese original of the year Canh Thìn (2000), its trilingual redaction, the updates of 2010 and 2020, the French translation, then the pieces drawn from it for reading — the complete tree, the filiation plates — and the data export that feeds the site's interactive tree. Taking the latest redaction is therefore not always the right move: the older states carry entries that the later ones abridged.

Two redactions of the same register, fourteen years apart: that of Đinh Nho Dật (1974) and that of Đinh Nho Chú (1988). Comparing them is the very use of this holding — the second corrects and completes the first, but the first keeps entries the second does not carry over.

The comparative materia medica of Chinese and Vietnamese remedies that Đinh Nho Chấn (1863-1935) compiled at the command of the Huế court. Sixteen quyển in chữ Nho, held at the Hán Nôm Research Institute under shelfmark A.2702/1 to /16, reproduced page by page. The transcription into modern Vietnamese is under way.

History and culture of the clan

The monographs written ABOUT the lineage, as distinct from the registers that record it. They narrate, they date, they set things in the country's history; the gia phả, for its part, enumerates.

Documents and writings of the lineage

The single pieces: an address read at the ancestral house, the appeal of a study-encouragement fund, a poem of exile. Each stands on its own.
