Đinh Hữu Luân
1602–1676 · district assessor · 6th generation
He passed the regional examination at 16, in 1617, and at 19, in 1620, was admitted to the “Năng văn bộ” [?] of the prefecture. After the suppression of unrest in the South, he became assessor (huyện tá) of Đông Ngạn.
The HYPT relates that he came to the aid of a Chinese merchant in difficulty; the merchant later brought him a geomancer, Ngô Tiên sinh, whom the family thereafter honoured every year. It is to this geomancer that the HYPT attributes the formula 繼世登科, “generation after generation, laureates of the examinations”. A small altar was raised to him to the left of the từ đường, then abandoned after the fourth generation.
He had two sons: the elder, Văn Đức, died young; the second is Đinh Nho Công, the clan's first doctor. His principal wife, Lady Lê, died on the 19th day of the 9th month of the Giáp Tý year (1684), aged 82. The couple rest in the Kim Hoa mausoleum, with Đinh Nho Công; the plaque there presents Đinh Nho Công as the “eldest son” (trưởng nam), whereas the HYPT makes him the second ⚠︎.
