Phan Thị Viên

† 1716 or 1717 ⚠︎ · “Tiết phụ” · 8th generation (by marriage)

Daughter of a registry clerk from Do Lễ (Hưng Nguyên) whose release Đinh Nho Công had obtained, she became at sixteen ⚠︎ (D-T04) the second wife of Đinh Nho Hoàn. A woman of letters, she exchanged poems with her husband, gathered in a collection now lost; there survive from her hand three of the ten farewell poems, a funeral oration and two letters.

After her husband's encoffining, she took her own life without informing the clan, at nineteen according to the Bách thần sự tích ⚠︎ (D-T05, D-T06). The court honoured her with the title of “Tiết phụ” and had the Gôi Vị temple raised for her. See the page “Phan Thị Viên” in the Tutelary Deities section.
